After Hokusai - woodcarving

After Hokusai, 2018
Red Cedar.
5.75" H x 9" W x 0.75" D (all approximate)

At this time (late 2018) I've only barely started carving wood,
and this is the first work worth sharing here. It's silly, I admit,
but that is part of my nature. I looked at the famous wood block print
The Great Wave by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai for
inspiration and discovered - much to my surprise - that there are boats
in the original. I don't know how many times I had looked at that print
and never noted their presence. From that realization it was only a
moment to decide to carve the aftermath of the passage of the wave.
