Other Stone Carvers
On the theory that if my work isn't what you want you may want to
talk to another stone carver, here are a few that I've encountered
over time. I know some others, but these are the ones with web sites.
- Sue Toorans -- my co-instructor
and long time friend. Sue's work is a bit more amorphous than my own
tends to be, but we both do whatever we want in reality.
- Doug Howatt -- a student
studying with Sue and me, though the word "student" is misleading.
There isn't much we've got left to teach him, but he keeps coming
back anyway. He's got natural talent!
- Dawn Medd -- Sue introduced me
to Dawn. She took the same Taking
the Leap class as Sue. Very nice work. Figurative, strong, but not
realistic.
Other Artists
- About Stone -- SolVici Glass.
Fused glass work by a friend living in Wisconsin.
Online Resources
- About Stone -- a source for
links to stone carvers all over the world and ongoing discussions
about working stone in many ways. An impressive web site.
Definitely worth your time.
Sculpture Supply Sources
I don't list places I've had bad experiences with, but that doesn't mean
a listing here is an endorsement. Your mileage may vary, etc.
- Renaissance Stone -- a
stone yard in Oakland CA. Good selection of stones and tools.
Reasonable stone prices. No mail order, though.
- Stone Sculptors Supplies
-- a supplier in Guerneville, California. These folks handle nice Italian
alabasters and good Italian rifflers, among other things.
- The Compleat Sculptor -- a big
supply place in New York. They have just about everything.
Prices seem to be full list, though.
- The Base Shop -- an excellent
supplier of custom sculpture bases. I've used them several times
and highly recommend them.
- Bronze Works -- a foundry in Santa Cruz, CA. Sean Monaghan is a
good guy and does nice work. His molds are very nice.
831-454-9098.
