June 26, 2008 -- ARTWORKSx6 Encore!
This year sees the return of ARTWORKSx6. I participated in
this show a couple of years ago, and we're doing it again.
It happens on Sept 27th. More information is available
here.
June 24, 2008 -- Stone Sculpture Repair
A new page about a sculpture repair I
did has been put up. I hope you find it interesting.
The blog has been updated regularly, but unfortunately most of the updates have been about local fires. I do promise to get some art related content in there as soon as I can. In the meantime, the fire updates will have to take precedence.
May 25, 2008 -- A New Blog
A local wildfire has caused me to create a new blog so I
can keep people up to date on events more easily. You can find it
here. Please tell me what
you think!
Jan 17, 2008 -- Time Continues To Fly
Sorry for the long absence. Life has been crazy with other
commitments. Isn't that always the way, though?
Recently I started playing with LinkedIn.com and that may be the cause of some visits to this site. If so, welcome! I'm happy to get back in touch with you. No, I'm not looking for a job. I am, however, keeping my network in shape against the event that I need to look for a job in the future. If you're a user of LinkedIn and know me, please feel free to send me an invitation to join your network.
In other news, the Mountain Art Guild - the organization that ran the only annual summer art show I have done for years - has folded. That means I have no show this summer and will have to figure out some alternative. I don't know what it will be, but I'll work on it.
In the meantime, if you see a piece of art here that you're interested in, please contact me and ask about it. I want it all to go to good homes where people will enjoy it, so don't be shy! Get in touch!
Aug 2, 2007 -- Time Flies
I'm trying, once again, to add new images of completed
works to the gallery. It turns out that despite all the
time and effort I put into making it easy to maintain and
update the gallery, I always have other things to do.
I'm trying to get past that and get something done. A
new piece went up today, and others should follow
relatively soon.
June 11, 2007 -- The art show has come and gone
Thanks so much to everyone who came to the art show this past
weekend. A great time was had by all, I hope. I know I
enjoyed myself, right up until I whacked my face on a stack
of 2x4s hanging off the back of my truck during the post-show
tear down.
And now, on to new projects. Stay tuned!
May 17, 2007 -- Art Show June 9 & 10
There haven't been many news updates here. Sorry about that.
I've been really, really busy with life. But that doesn't
matter. What matters is...
It's once again time for the Mountain Art Guild art show, June 9 & 10, at Radonich Ranch. For those in or near the San Francisco Bay area who want to come to the show: head for highway 17 between Los Gatos and Santa Cruz, and drive to the top. Exit at Summit Road and go East (cross over the freeway if you're going south on 17 when you exit) and continue 6.5 miles to the show. It's that easy. There will be food, wine tasting, music, and art by something like 50 different artists. I always enjoy this show, and I hope to see you there.
September 17, 2006 -- Web site updates are happening
Life has bean insanely busy, and it's not getting any simpler,
but I am finally starting to put some of the new pieces up on
the web site. The first is titled Small
Bowl. It's quite nice and needs to find a home. Please take a look
at it!
June 17, 2006 -- The show is over...
I'd like to thank everyone who visited me at the
MAG art show. I had a great time there, and I
really appreciate everyone coming out and seeing
all the art. Much appreciated!
May 25, 2006 -- A new section... writings
Though the art show is bearing down on me like a ton of
bricks, I just wrote and posted a bit of humor. It was
stuck in my brain and needed to come out, so I did it.
You can see what I have
written if you are curious.
And now, back to the garage to polish stones!
April 23, 2006 -- The new gallery is up, at last!
It's taken a lot longer than I anticipated, but I finally
have the new gallery fully created and uploaded. You can
find it here. Please
take a look, and let me know if you find any issues that I
need to fix.
In addition, here are some important dates too:
| June 3 & 4, 2006 | AVArt Fest, at the Triton Museum in Santa Clara, CA. I will have a few pieces in this show as a member of the Mountain Art Guild. Please stop by if you can. | |
| June 4, 2006 | The Loma Prieta Volunteer Fire Department's annual BBQ. As a member of this department I get to participate in this event. The money we bring in is a major source or revenue for us. Please come enjoy a nice afternoon of food, games, and other things if you can. We're at the Gazebo on Summit Road, about 2.5 miles east of Highway 17. If you need more information, please email me your questions. | |
| June 10 & 11, 2006 | The 10th annual Mountain Art Guild Art & Wine Show. I'll be here all weekend, and a fair amount of time before and after too. Please come see me here if you're interested in any artwork you see on this web site. Thanks! |
April 16, 2006 -- We welcome Danno to our pack
On Thursday, we added a new member to our pack. Very
sadly, about a month ago we had to put
Nikki down.
Her decline was sudden and severe, and her quality of life had
suffered a lot lately. We waited a while, and got over the shock
and loss to some extent, and then visited our local animal shelter
and picked up Danno, a 2 year old Siberian Husky male. He's
settling in very well though he's more than a bit stubborn, and will
try many times before becoming convinced that what we want is higher
in priority than what he wants. A lot of time at obedience school
is ahead of us.
For the curious, you can see photos of Danno and Anne and or Leah (our older Australian Cattle Dog mix).
April 10, 2006 -- Sorry for the lack of news...
I've been swamped with many things of late, including extensive
training for my volunteer fire fighter role. (One of these days
I really need to write up a bit about what I am doing in that
regard. Others might find it interesting.) And now, as we head
into mid April with no end in sight for the rainy season, I am
worried that I will have little new work for the art show this
June. I'll have to knuckle down and make it happen.
The new gallery has been taking shape here on my computer at home, but it isn't quite ready for prime time just yet. There are a few newer pieces still to add into it, for example. But now that I am past the mid term in my first aid class, and now that the wild land fire academy is over, I can get back to that ASAP. I hope you see it soon.
January 2, 2006 -- Book reviews now posted online
I finally got all of the book reviews I've written in the last
year posted here. They were all posted on a different forum
originally, but now they are here too. Enjoy!
Oh, and Happy New Year!
December 27, 2005 -- Web site cleanup in progress
I have been cleaning up the web site today. Revising and correcting
all kinds of trivial all over the pages. Next up is a major overhaul
of the entire gallery, though I don't yet know the specifics of how
I will be doing that. In any event, please drop by from time to time
to see what I've changed and added. Thanks!
November 21, 2005 -- Thank you!
ARTWORKS x 6 was a great success. Thanks to everyone
who attended. A good time was had by all!
Nov 18, 2005 -- ARTWORKS x 6
This show in the Santa Cruz Mountains, near my home, will feature
artwork by 6 local artists. Come join us on a Friday evening to
see what your neighbors are doing lately. More data will appear
here very soon.
Oct 20, 2005 -- General News
My how time flies when you're busy. I've become involved with
my local volunteer fire department, and I've been working on
several long delayed house projects, and I've been sculpting,
of course. There will be new pieces in the Nov 18 art show!
June 15, 2005 -- Thank You!
A big thank you to everyone who visited the art shows over the
past 2 weekends. I had my best show ever on June 11 & 12, and
several pieces have now gone to new, good, homes. I greatly
appreciate the support that I was given there, and I look forward
to doing more shows in the future!
June 11-12, 2005 -- Annual Mountain Art Guild Summer Show
I will once again be participating in this show. It's been a great
venue for me and many other artists. I hope you can stop by and see
it. A good time is generally had by all. More information should
be available somewhere on the MAG web site.
June 4-5, 2005 -- AVA Show at the Triton Museum in Santa Clara
As in years past, I will have a few pieces in the MAG group booth
at the Triton Museum this weekend. Stop by and see the show if you
can, and say hello. I should be there most of both days.
April 27, 2005 -- new contact form installed
Finally got a new contact form installed. Now all those contact links don't
go to just a page saying "here's how to email me." Instead they go to a form
that sends the email automagically. Much better.
April 17, 2005 -- the new life begins
As I said below, I am now unemployed, and working to spend a lot more
time on my art. It's a slow ramp up, but it should be good for me,
and it will definitely give me time to get some things back under control.
I hope to have several new pieces for the show in June, and I hope to
see you there. Thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement
as I go forward with this change!
March 1-31, 2005 -- Pacific Art League Show
I have a piece in this show -- "Teacher and Subject." Anyone wanting to see my work
might consider stopping in. It's only one piece -
Red Bowl - but
it shows something of what I do, and might cause you to decide that taking a stone carving
class would be a good thing.
March 6, 2005 -- Major Life Event
I have resigned from my day job, in preparation for trying an entirely
new phase of my life. Much of that will involve more time on my art,
I hope. I haven't quite stopped working yet, but I hope to get started
on a lot of new and important things in April. One of those things will
be a major update of this web site. Please stay tuned!
Nov 7, 2004 -- Fencing
Not art related, but I have to put this somewhere. I earned
my B rating while fencing epee in a Veterans (40+) tournament
in Oakland today. I finished 2nd out of 23, and had to beat
an A and another B fencer to get into the final. Very cool.
Oct 27 - Nov 13, 2004 -- Art Show in Ben Lomond
The 2nd annual MAG show at the SCMAC is happening these dates.
I'll have at least one piece in there. Reception is Friday,
Oct 29, from 6-9pm. I hope to see you there.
Oct 22, 2004 -- Site revamp
I've moved the pages from my old, non-art-related, personal site
into this one now. That was forced by an amazingly fast domain
name transfer. If you found these pages via a google query or
some such, welcome.
Jun 12-13 2004 -- Mountain Art Guild Show
The annual
Mountain Art Guild
show at Radonich Ranch (about 6.5 miles east of highway 17 on Summit Road).
The show is open 10-6 on Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday. I will once again
share a booth with
Debbie Blessing -- an
accomplished photographer. This is a great show. We hope to see you there.
Jun 6-7 2004 -- AVA Art Fest in San Jose
I will have a few pieces in the Mountain Art Guild booth at this show
on the grounds of the Triton Museum in San Jose, CA.
April 18 2004 -- Site Update
I've finally managed to get a few things updated on the site.
Most importantly, I have uploaded the pages for
Gray Curves
and
Deep Dive.
In addition, I've cleaned up quite a few other things, and
modified the gallery displays a bit to make the main pages
more useful -- I hope.
Feb 1-28, 2004 -- Art Show
Feb 6, 2004 -- Reception 4-8pm
Deep Dive will be in the faculty members show at the
Pacific Art League in Palo Alto.
I intend to attend the reception and should be there after 6pm.
At the same time, one of our students -- David Fisher -- has a piece in the show in the main gallery at the Pacific Art League. The reception for that show is at the same time as the one for the faculty show, and I think the dates are the same as well. Stop in and see what our students can do!
Jan 21, 2004
The other piece I had in the show in November --
Gray Curves,
carved
from pumice -- has sold. Many thanks to the buyer.
Dec 2003
My co-instructor Sue Toorans
has her own web site up and running now. Check her stuff out if you
are interested in someone else's stone carving style.
Nov 12, 2003
One of my pieces -- Deep Dive --
in the Mountain Art Center show listed below won an honorable mention award.
Nov 12-22, 2003 -- Art Show
I'll have a piece or two in a show in
The Santa Cruz
Mountain Art Center, 9341 Mill Street, Ben Lomond, CA 95005.
Other artists in the show are also members of the Mountain Art Guild.
