Why is this piece called Petal Bowl II when there is no
Petal Bowl I? Well, it's actually named after
White Alabaster Bowl
which was called a Petal Bowl by a gallery it was displayed
at once. The gallery owner would put red rose petals in it, and the
effect was quite striking.
This stone is similar in some ways, but it's actually anhydrite instead of alabaster. It's more of a blue-white as opposed to the yellow-white of the white alabasters. It's also a bit harder than alabaster, making carving it a different experience. Alas this is another piece that found a new home before I remembered to write down the dimensions. From memory only, it's about 14" wide, 10" deep, and 5" tall. Sold. |
