Limestone Vase

Limestone Vase Limestone Vase Limestone Vase
This dried flower vase is carved from pale yellow/tan limestone. The original piece was a solid block of stone - I had to remove all that interior material to get this result.

An interesting thing about this piece of limestone: there were inclusions - places where the basic material of the stone is replaced by something else, usually something much harder - that appeared to be made of metal. My best guess is that they were fossilized shells, but I couldn't be sure. What was certain was that whenever I needed to incise a line in the stone I would find one of these metallic inclusions in the way, and struggle to make what I wanted happen.

The effort was worthwhile, though.

Dimensions: 16 inches tall, 11 inches wide, and 7 inches deep.

Sold.
