Fencing Mark Wheeler - 1 of 6

fencing Mark pic 1
Here we are, early in my DE with Mark Wheeler. This photo shows at least two flaws in my fencing.
  1. Note the tip of my blade -- it's way off to my left instead of being pointed towards my opponent. My parries are strong and wide -- particularly to the 4th position (upper left on a right handed fencer). Mark is probably feinting here, and I am over reacting, as usual.
  2. My stance stinks. My feet are way too far apart. Where am I going to go from here, and how? I might be advancing, but if so, my blade work is all messed up. sigh

A bit about Mark: he's another very nice guy. I've met him in competition once before this, and he took it, but I gave him a run for his money. As of this bout, he was B rated, but it is only a matter of time before he earns his A. He takes lessons from Mike Botenhagen, as I did for a while, when my schedule allowed. It was during our Friday lessons that I got to fence him a bit more often.

Once again, I was sure I'd lose this bout going into it, and since such a loss would put me tied for 3rd place, I wasn't going to complain at all if that happened. Mark's another good guy to lose to.
